Angel In Disguise – What It Sounds Like (Updated)

You probably heard the story the other day about an unreleased McCartney/Starr composition that is to be sold at auction. Most news articles included images of two hand-written music manuscripts. I was asked by a prominent Beatles collector if I could work out the song from the music.

The music sheets are very sketchy – they are rough studio notes rather than a proper score (perhaps a session player noted down the basic melody and chords). The poor image resolution made the task even harder.

But I could just about work out the melody and used a bit of imagination, based on my knowledge of McCartney’s compositional style over the past six decades.

I then recorded a demo version of this song.

The problem is that I really can’t sing, and the song is far too high for me (I am a baritone). So I gave my demo to two fellow McCartney fans to see if they could build on my efforts.

Javier Lubelski

Javier Lubelski was the first musician to offer his recording. He is undoubtedly one of Argentina’s biggest McCartney fans and even managed to meet his idol in 2019 (he is to the left of him here).

So here is Javier’s version:

Ryan Roberts

The second recording is by Ryan Roberts.

Ryan Roberts is an amateur musician from Scotland. He plays bass guitar in a covers band called ‘The Night Before’. He is a massive Beatles/ McCartney fan and saw Paul perform in Glasgow, where his row Z tickets were upgraded to front row and centre!

Finally, if anybody else wants to have a go at recording this song, please let me know, and maybe we can post it here.
