The World Tour 1989-90 – Book to Be Published Very Soon
After over a year of writing and researching, I am pleased to say that Paul McCartney The World Tour 1989-90 will be published within weeks.
The front cover photo is from Andrew Brooks from the Playhouse Theatre Rehearsal Concert, 26th July 1989. The back cover photo is courtesy of Billy Dyer, from Texas Stadium, Irving, Texas, Saturday the 7th of April 1990. Thanks to them both for offering such stunning photos!
I am waiting for a final interview at the end of the month – with somebody closely associated with the tour (but not a band member) – all will revealed!
In the meantime, people are still sending me their contributions. I have taken accounts and photos from fans who were at the concerts. For their work, they can buy the book at print cost only – around half-price.
What Do You Know About The World Tour?
So, you think you have a pretty good knowledge of the tour? Here are some things you maybe didn’t know…
- The concert on the 5th of February 1990 at Pittsburgh’s Civic Arena was almost cancelled due to Paul’s ongoing throat and vocal issues
- The drummer Chris Whitten left the band right after The World Tour in August 1990. He went on to join Dire Straits for their world tour but hated the experience. At the end of it, he “never wanted to see another drum kit.”
- Maybe I’m Amazed was dropped and replaced by Let ‘Em In in Japan in March 1990
- P.S. Love Me Do was performed for the first time at the Tokyo Dome was was subsequently dropped because Paul “Didn’t Like it That Much.”
- The gig at Cleveland Municipal Stadium, Cleveland, Ohio, Friday the 20th of July 1990 was to 66,476 fans – the biggest audience of any concert during the US legs of the tour
- Protesters handed out leaflets before the gig at Cyclone Stadium, Ames, Iowa, Wednesday the 18th of July 1990 – livestock farmers objected to Paul’s anti-meat stance.
