Wings Live! – Progress So Far and Denny Laine Video
I will be using this website to give regular updates about the progress of my next book, Wings Live!
As of today (21st August) I have written around 16,000 words.
Chapters One and Two
The first chapter in the book looks at the immediate period after the release of Abbey Road; Paul’s “disappearance” into Scotland; the McCartney, Ram and Wild Life albums; and forming the new band – Wings.
I believe that a lot of other books have missed out on the context of these times, so I have written articles about the Bloody Sunday event; a short biography of Linda McCartney; and provided a map of High Park farm in the Kintyre Peninsula.
The second chapter is an examination of the University Tour in February 1972. It looks at the background to the tour; the tour itinerary; the two available recordings; critical and eyewitness reception.
Here you can see a rough preview of some of the book so far
Denny Laine Video
The book will be vastly improved by a painstaking examination of all the available video footage both before and after the Wings era. I am thankful again for Roy Matthews, who has given me his VHS collection, which I am digitising into DVDs. The spindle of DVDs gets fuller by the day.
Here you can see an excellent performance of Go Now by Denny Laine.
For non-UK viewers, it is worth noting that the presenters at the end are Richard and Judy from Granada TV. Granada TV is based in the North West of England and this programme was broadcast from the docks in Liverpool.
This Morning aired live every week day. It is worth noting that all of Denny’s performance here is totally live, with live vocals and band – but was also aired live (which takes some nerve and experience).
In the interview, he touches on the break-up of Wings and is remarkably good-humoured about his own financial issues over the years:
