Wings’ First Short European Tour (1976) – Copenhagen

After the November 1975 tour of Australia, Wings embarked on a short European tour – their first since 1972.

This tour held two main objectives; a final preparation for the mammoth 1976 “Wings over America” tour and to publicise Wings at the Speed of Sound.

Wings at the Speed of Sound

Wings at the Speed of Sound was released on the 26th of March 1976. It had been recorded quickly, between January and February of the same year, leading some critics to say that it was more “rushed” than its predecessor, Venus and Mars. However, it spent seven weeks at the top of the US Billboard charts and sold 3.5 million copies worldwide.

Three new songs were added to the set-list from the album: Beware My Love, Silly Love Songs and Let ‘Em In. The attendees for all but the last concert would have been hearing Let ‘Em In and Beware My Love for the first time.

Silly Love Songs had been released on the 10th of March.

First Concert

The first concert was at Copenhagen’s Falkoner Theatre on Saturday the 20th of March 1976.

Lars Bo Hansen was at the concert and he provides a fan-account for my book Wings Live. Here is a part of his account of the concert:

Post-Concert Interview

After the concert, Wings were interviewed by Edmondt Jensen for Danish Television. The interview gets more hilarious as it progresses. By the end, Laine is wrapped up in a scarf and McCartney calls him “Bilbo” – make sure you watch the full interview!

Second Night

Wings also performed at the Falkoner on the 21st of March. Bootleg records exist for both nights. Note that a flyer for a bootleg of the second night erroneously shows the 1974 line-up of Wings, including Geoff Britton, in a publicity picture for Junior’s Farm:
