Wings Live – Extended Special Edition – Almost Complete

Release Date 1st December 2022

The countdown is on for the release of Wings Live Extended Special Edition. It should be ready to order by the 1st of December.

Formats

The book will be available as a hardback with dust jacket or a paperback. Because the page sizes are different, there will be 800 pages in the hardback and 620 pages in the paperback – but the content is identical in both.

Here is the dust jacket for the hardback

The paperback’s cover design:

As you can see, there is no blurb on the back cover – I wanted to keep Dan Cuny’s stunning shot of Jimmy McCulloch as complete as possible.

What’s New in the book?

The book’s length (800 pages hardback) should give you an idea of the level of detail included.

In essence, there is 50% more material in this book than in Wings Live, which was published in 2020.

There is lots of new material in this book – including new photographs, new interviews, new fan accounts and more detailed research.

The New Items Include:

  • A fully-revised account of Wings’ University Tour
  • Posters from Wings’ European Tour of 1972
  • New, unseen photographs of Wings in Helsinki, Finland in 1972
  • An interview with the DJ Dave Symonds who interviewed Paul McCartney in 1973 after Wings’ concert at Oxford’s New Theatre
  • An interview with Andy Weal, who witnessed the filming of The James Paul McCartney TV Special in 1973
  • Contextual accounts of the music scene in 1973 and 1979
  • A fully-revised account of Wings’ 1973 British Tour
  • New interviews with Dan Ealey and Billy Dyer, who speak about Wings’ time at Junior’s Farm, Tennessee
  • An account by John Lennon’s drummer, Andy Newmark, about meeting McCartney in 1973
  • Wings’ quest for a new drummer in 1973/4
  • A completely new interview with Wings’ drummer Geoff Britton
  • A fully-revised and much more detailed account of Wings’s historic tour of the USA in the summer of 1976, with new fan accounts
  • Twelve more fan accounts of Wings’ concerts in the 1970s
  • A long article on “Wings Live Bootlegs’ by Tom Brennan.
  • An interview with Yuri Pool about the historic importance of Wings and playing Paul McCartney in `The McCartney Years’ show.
  • A revised conclusion, which assimilates the new research in Wings Live Extended Special Edition
