Wings Live is Now Finally Here

I am pleased to announce that my book, Wings Live, is finally available in paperback, hardback or PDF download.

This book has taken me hundreds of hours to complete but could not have been achieved without the input of so many people. Those who contributed either a fan account or a photograph will, of course, be sent a free copy in the next couple of weeks.

The Input of Wings Members

Apart from the help of fans, the book has been scrutinised by two former members of Wings. Geoff Britton checked and approved my account of the period from 1974-1975 when he drummed for the band until January 1975. This chapter covers the “live in the studio” film One Hand Clapping and documents the band’s time in Tennessee at “Junior’s Farm”. Dan Ealey describes the atmosphere on the farm and listening to Wings’ rehearsals.

Laurence Juber read my chapter from 1978 until the final break-up of Wings in April 1981. He was incredibly helpful and sent back my PDF files with corrections and suggestions. The book ends with an exclusive interview with LJ, conducted on Zoom on the 11th of December 2020. He offered a great deal of detail about the 1979 tour, Back to the Egg, and the fiasco in Japan.

Early Reviews

I sent Andy Nicholes, the host of the popular McCartney podcast, 2 Legs, an early copy for review. Andy has cited Wings Live as:

“A vital contribution to the growing historiography of Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles career. A field in which there has been little research or analysis. Adrian’s work on Wings as a live touring unit is the only text of its kind as of present day and is very much welcomed.”

Andy Nicholes

The writer and critic Eoghan Lynn reviewed Wings Live for New Sounds. Part of his review reads:

“An all encompassing look at the band that brought Paul McCartney from the ashes of The Beatles to the stages of the seventies counterculture. It is to Allan’s great credit that the work complements and enhances the McCartney library rather than revert to a stage routine older than the bassist himself.”

Nothing compares to holding a book in your hand but if you want an immediate download, a PDF is an inexpensive option. Click on “View Product”.

Signed Copy

Some people were asking about signed copies. I’m flattered that people would even consider that, as I’m just an ordinary Joe pursuing his hobby.

  1. But if you want a signed copy, it can be arranged but it will push up the costs considerably, as it has to be posted to me and then out again to you.

2. A cheaper option is for you to request that I send you a signed sticker (I have these ready) which I can post separately from the book in an envelope

Wings Live – an Ongoing Project

I would like this book to be the first stage in a longer project of collating information about Wings’ concerts in the 1970s. In the future, Wings Live could be re-published with new fan accounts, memories and photographs.

So if you were at a concert, I would like to hear from you. Can you offer a review, like this extract from Iain Baird’s account of Wings at the Glasgow Apollo on the 17th of December 1979?

Please send you information to: adrianallan@paulmccartneyafterthebeatles.com
